Basketball Ideas for new insert sets.

I just saw that 50 greatest player collection a thread or 2 down. Thats when I remembered my old idea.

I understand that some companys have exclusive rights to players. But I think they would do a lot of good if they could combine for 1 product.

What would you guys think of:

MVP Auto Set, with an inkscription MVP and the Year won? Obviously you can't get everyones (some are passed on) but maybe even have cut autos..

Make them very rare to pull, 1 a case, or every other case. #'d them to 10 or 5..

Even make an ALL STAR MVP and FINALS MVP one.

Heck, you can make a DPOY, ROY, 6th man of the year, etc. etc. etc.

I think this would be an awesome set if done right. Everyone would want some, and few would try to complete the set.

Any other ideas?

I like the idea, but it is impossible. Topps would love to combine with UD for something, but UD would NEVER do it. They are far superior to Topps, and will not do anything to give Topps the chance to close that gap.

Can is one thing, but they won't. They will not level the playing field. Plus, there would be too many issues with the money. Who has exclusives with who. Who is worth more? All sorts of BS. It is a nice idea, but it is like peace in the middle east... IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN!

joshsmith,
I had an idea that I thought of years ago. A manufactuer take the top 10 most popular players of a year, decade, or century. Tie in some patch/cut autos and keep them low # to 10 or 25 each. Use photos (if possible) from years of their life (i.e kindergarten, senior h.s. photo, college if possible, rookie year, career best year, and retirement year) Take all those different variations and make a set within a set (kinda like 2007 Topps milestones), but the kicker would be the memorabilia tied in with it.
Thought of that years ago but never really thought it would be good enough for a specific manufactuer to act upon.

"BAM"

I think card companie should drop autos, low0numbered inserts, and game used all together. They need to allow the little guys to come back into the hobby. We need some Fleer hot packs and stuff like that again. Ya know, the 1:6 type of inserts. Maybe have that 1:288 or something like, but none of this #'d to five auto, patch bs.

what?

The little guy is what ruined the hobby with all these easy to pull game used cards.

The Jordan auto is worth 4-500 dollars now at best because of the little guy.

I don't agree with making the autos easier to pull (maybe the scrubs at best) but I say they need the very hard to get on card auto of the stars.

No the fact that UD started GU cards is what ruined the hobby. The hobby needs to go back to the old days when they were maybe 10 sets to choose from and inserts were the big thing to get. maybe one auot and GU set per set but that should be the limit because it is ruining the hobby. It was UD that killed the hobby, not the little guy.

They made them easier to pull for the little guy.

I agree with inserts, but thats not what is in demand.

Demand are hard to get, on card autos, of stars, legends, and rookies.

Just another little thing, the hobby was good before all this GU stuff. People are brainwashed into thinking that those cards are the only good cards out there. I collect sets. Nobody collects sets anymore. You know why? It's too hard because prices of packs and such are so high because of all the memorabilia cards.

It's impossible for a little guy to have a collection that anyone cares about anymore. You all don't care if I have a collection of 500 Jim Thomes. Why? Because I have two autos and three GU and they all are lower quality ones. It's horrible what is happening to the hobby. Truly horrible.

brainwashing?

There is plenty of cheap packs out there that you can buy.

Just because you can't afford the 10-20-50-100-400-500 dollar packs, doesn't mean the rest of the hobby needs to suffer.

Topps Chrome, Fleer, Topps, are all cheap, with possiblities of big hits.

$3.00 for 3 cards is cheap? (Topps Chrome)
$1.00 for 6 cards is cheap? (Topps Opening Day)

Not where I come from. I remember when Topps went for $0.79. That is more like it.

I just think everything is too out of hand. That is why I sell more now. But, no one wants to buy what I sell because they are brainwashed into wanting GU and autos.
