Basketball KOBE: IF West isn't back I WANT OUT WOW!!!

Kobe Bryant isn't happy with the Lakers' direction and wants Jerry West back in Los Angeles to fix things.

Bryant told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher that he wants the Lakers to bring West back to the organization and give him full authority. If the Lakers don't want to do that, Bryant said he wants to be traded.

Bryant is frustrated that the team has not made any significant moves since it re-signed him.

"I want to see us get to a contending level," he told The Los Angeles Times. "I want to see us become a championship contender. It's been a frustrating process for me and I'm sure it's been a frustrating process for all Laker fans. I'm just hoping we can get to that level. I'm still frustrated. I'm waiting for them to make some changes."

Mitch Kupchak is the current Lakers general manager.

West, who spent five seasons in Memphis, will leave his post as the Grizzlies' director of basketball operations July 1 at the end of his contract. West helped build the Lakers' dynasty in the '80s and engineered their rebirth in the '90s, overseeing seven NBA championship teams -- including back-to-back champions in 1987-1988 and three consecutive crowns from 2000-2002.

In Memphis, West never had the advantages he enjoyed in the large market of Los Angeles, where he signed Shaquille O'Neal and traded Vlade Divac for Bryant.

Bryant averaged 31.6 points per game in 2007 as the Lakers qualified for the seventh seed in the Western Conference with a 42-40 record. Los Angeles lost in five games to the Suns, however, and the Lakers haven't won a championship since O'Neal was traded to the Heat.

Sorry, but all I ever seem to hear is Kobe crying about something...he can't play with Shaq..he cries. Shaq's gone...he cries. He can't play under Phil...he cries. Phils leaves...he cries. Phil comes back..he cries. Now he's crying about West?

C'mon...enough is enough. The Lakers should part ways with him. Get the most they can for him in a trade and rebuild....and never look back.

That would be crazy for the Lakers to trade Kobe.
A. They need to get some players around him, and not someone that is lugging 350lbs and has bad knees.
B. They need a true point guard.
C. They need to let Kobe do what he does. 1/1 no one can defend him period.

Just my .02

The problem would be that know one would be under the salary cap enough, because he would only go to a team that is a contender.

IF, and that is a BIG IF, he gets traded, I would think Chicago would be the favorite. It would allow the Lakers to pick up some nice young talent (Gordon, Deng, and draft picks). And it would certainly make the Bulls a contender.

Nooooo I don't want the Bulls to take him :)
My guts tells me that Kobe would just destroy their chemistry and stink them up. They have a good team spirit going on between Hindrich/Deng/Gordon and Ben Wallace. Kobe would just bring that element of selfishness to the Bulls.

I can understand Kobe's frustration - he has a genuine right to wail about the Lakers not being a contender. I think it is time for Kobe and Lakers to part, their relationship has been rocky for a while. If I was the Lakers GM I would trade Kobe for a couple of decent guards as they are sort of ok in the big men department with Odom/Bynum. I don't see any decent guards being on the market right now?

However I would advise Kobe to get his ego in check and watch his mouth as there are right/wrong ways to go about stating his opinions, feelings and desire to be traded. He still hasn't learned how to be diplomatic I see.

Helluva of a player though - will be interesting to see if he hustles for Team USA. If he does then he will go a long way of showing people that he can be a great team player. If he just causes disharmony then his trade value won't be as high.

West is for sure better then any staff that they have ever had. Can you blame kobe on being frustrated with the terrible players that surround him. He is a winner, has been a winner, and wants to be a winner. If you were surrounded by people who think about anything other then winning, well it is time to get some new faces around yourself.

It seems like all Lakers fans complain that Kobe has no help. Yet, i'm sure LeBron would kill to have Lamar Odom as a help man.

Amen to that. Kobe is just a whinning ball hog.
