This is starting to become more and more common since it doesn't cost anything except a few minutes of your time. Most current players' addresses are really tough to find and will most likely not respond to the email even if you do find it. Lots of NCAA coaches sign via email (pete carroll, coach k etc.) and so do actors/actresses. If there are any that you would like to know, ask here

in the subject line put something like "autograph request"
then just tell them that you're a big fan etc. and leave your address. i havent done too much of this, but that's how ive done it
