Tiger Woods opens as the favorite in Vegas to win the British Open
By Jonathan Wall

The U.S. Open isn't even 24 hours old and already we're turning our attention to golf's old major championship: the British Open. On Monday, the Las Vegas Hotel and Casino Sportsbook (formerly the Las Vegas Hilton) released early lines for the third major of the year, installing Tiger Woods as the 10/1 favorite.

Even though he's the favorite, Woods isn't exactly firing on all cylinders at the moment, after he posted a T-21 finish at the U.S. Open, his second-worst since he turned pro back in 1996. But Woods is the biggest name in the sport and likely takes more action than any player in the field, so it shouldn't come as a complete shock to see him with the shortest odds.

Woods finished T-25 the last time the Open was hosted at Royal Lytham and St Annes back in 2001; he also was low amateur there back in 1996, which seems like a lifetime ago.

The usual suspects round out the top 10, including Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood at 12/1, and Phil Mickelson at 30/1.

Here's a rundown of Las Vegas Hotel and Casino's top 10 to win the British Open (and a couple of interesting Tiger and Rory prop bets):

I don't know about that. I sure wouldn't put any money on him with his inconsistency. I'm so sick of seeing the headline "Tiger's Back!" every time he gets near the top of the leaderboard in a tournament.

He's too inconsistant for me to put him as the favorite. Vegas is just trying to make money. How many people are gonna drop coin on Tiger? Lots I'd bet! :D

I agree troy and disagree with mike...yes lots of people will still drop lots of cash on tiger for a couple of reasons. Tiger in his hayday was usually a 2-1 or 3-1 favorite and now that its up to a 10-1 and he is showing signs that he's back. You are basically getting 3-5 times the payout vs years past. I do agree that he wasn't all there last week but he definitely showed flashes that he could be close.

Plus the majority of people who gamble in Vegas have no clue what they are doing in the first place. People will bet on Tiger just because of who he is, and what he's done in the past, plus what he is still capable of doing still. I wouldn't bet money on him, but then again I wouldn,t bet against him either.
