Canadiens’ Dandenault has arm surgery

MONTREAL (AP)—Montreal Canadiens defenseman Mathieu Dandenault had surgery on his left arm, which was broken when he was hit along the boards during a game against Calgary. He will be out indefinitely.

Dandenault left Montreal’s 4-1 win over the Flames on Tuesday night in the second period after the hit by Dustin Boyd. With his left arm dangling, Dandenault skated to the front of his net and held his position for several seconds, despite another shove from Boyd, until play was stopped.

Forward Christopher Higgins also left in the first period when he was knocked into the boards. He went for an MRI on Wednesday for what the club called an “upper body injury.” He will not play Thursday night against visiting Tampa Bay.

Defenseman Ryan O’Byrne and either of forwards Georges Laraque or Guillaume Latendresse are to replace the injured players.
