Texas Tech starting quarterback Taylor Potts remained at the Convenant Medical Center in Lubbock Sunday after he was among two Red Raiders who were hospitalized overnight after their 48-28 victory over New Mexico.

Potts was listed in good condition at the hospital, according to hospital spokeswoman Michelle Stephens. The Lubbock Avalanche-Journal confirmed that Potts sustained a concussion in the second quarter of the game.

Reserve Tech cornerback Nathan Stone was listed in stable, but fair condition Sunday at the hospital after being admitted after the game, Stephens said. Stone sustained a likely neck injury.

Potts was injured late in the second quarter when he was sacked twice during a three-play sequence late in the second quarter. He was replaced by backup Steven Sheffield, who passed for 238 yards and three touchdowns to orchestrate the victory.

Stone was examined for a possible spinal injury after he made a tackle on a third-quarter kickoff. While tackling return man Frankie Solomon, Stone apparently took a knee to his helmet and fell face first to the turf.

Stone was motionless on the field for several minutes, but was able to walk off the field with assistance.

The Red Raiders lost two other players to injuries in the victory. Starting center Shawn Byrnes and free safety Cody Davis both missed much of the game.

Byrnes hobbled off the field favoring his left leg and Davis left with an injury to his right leg.

Tech coach Mike Leach was typically evasive after the game when he described the injuries.

"I expect everybody to be back since there hasn't been an injury around here for five years or whenever it started," Leach said. "I don't know why this week would be any different, so we'll go out and see what happens."

The Red Raiders will meet Kansas State Saturday in Lubbock. If Potts cannot play, it would be the first time in Leach's 10-season coaching tenure at Tech that the Red Raiders would play a backup quarterback as a starter.
