Keeping up with the news, I saw an article talking about Pat Neshek (pitcher for the Cardinals) who is obviously serious about his collection. Neshek isn't a big name star, the reason I really liked the article is because he's building the kind of collection that I'd love to be able to do (if I had the financial resources of course). He's putting together a collection of top graded 1970 Topps cards, a collection of 1985 autographed cards, and some other similar type things.

It's a good read anyway, and really good press for the hobby

Anyone else know of pro sport athletes who collect?

Demitri Young (former Detroit Tigers) had a HUGE collection of GRADED rookie cards.

I say "had" because I remember seeing him auctioning the collection off a few months ago. Topps had a show about collecting "cardboard" on MLB.com about two years ago which highlighted Young's collection... very impressive... very expensive...

You can read more here... along with pictures of the collection (includes a 1954 Hank Aaron cards rated as a Gem Mint 10 by the Professional Sports Authenticators (PSA)!!!)

Young had a big contract deal with ISA for grading a lot of stuff as well.

I can't remember who it was, but I remember watching a Philadelphia Eagles game one time, and a player on the opposing team asked Michael Vick to sign something for him. Thought it was pretty interesting.
